Financial aid for college starts with FAFSA

If you have a high school senior in your household, your family has undoubtedly started to discuss what happens after graduation. For some families that means planning for higher education. If you have a college-bound student and are like most American families, you are likely looking at some type of financial aid, a loan, or a combination of the two to finance the cost of college. Perhaps you’ve set up a 529 plan for college funding.

Filing the FAFSA®, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is considered the single most important thing a senior can do to get financial aid for college. So alongside those college applications, be sure to complete the FAFSA with your student. The FAFSA application portal will be open until June 30, 2023, for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Alpine Bank and its student loan partner Sallie Mae encourage students and parents to access the helpful flyer, Filing the FAFSA®—Financial aid for college starts with the FAFSA®, Published by Sallie Mae and available at https://www.alpinebank.com/_/kcms-doc/1507/68596/AlpineBank_FAFSA_Flyer.pdf
