However you slice it, Blue Moose Pizza is a ski town staple

In 1989 when restaurateur Brian Nolan arrived in Eagle County, Beaver Creek Resort was still pretty new. Brian saw the vast opportunity that lay ahead, and started thinking about how to fill a needed business niche. It didn’t take much time to realize that a family-friendly pizzeria would fit the mold perfectly.

Hearkening back to his city roots, Brian concluded that only a New York-style pizza place would do. With that, he opened the first Blue Moose Pizza in 1995. It was originally in the space that now houses the restaurant Hooked, and it started as a small counter-service operation.

The pizza was a smash with visitors and locals alike, and the restaurant quickly became a staple stop-off for skiers, employees and residents in Beaver Creek Village.

“We pride ourselves on our hand-tossed pizza dough and homemade sauce, a recipe that hasn’t changed in the 26 years,” said Brian. That’s also the age of Brian’s son Wil, who has begun to take over operations and looks to the future to grow the business.

Blue Moose Pizza is now located in the Poste Montane in Beaver Creek and has expanded its menu to serve a variety of appetizers, salads and sandwiches in addition to the restaurant’s specialty pizzas by the pie or slice. A sister restaurant opened in the heart of Lionshead Village in Vail in 2007.

Though each location has its own individual character, they both hold onto the foundational concepts of a family-friendly atmosphere and hand-tossed pizza crust.

“I had wanted to be an Alpine Bank customer forever and am excited we finally made the connection. They offer all the standard banking services, but honestly they go the extra mile with us as a customer,” said Brian. “They’re a great asset to our small towns from their engagement with local community, to fundraising, to leadership positions on local boards. It makes it an even greater pleasure to work with Alpine Bank as our own company follows a similar path.”
