Spring Clean Green!

Make cleansers, disinfectants and air fresheners at home from natural ingredients that are both eco-friendly and budget friendly.

Here are recipes for some common household cleansers for spring cleaning your environment without harming Mother Earth’s.

All-Purpose Cleaner


1/2 cup vinegar

1/4 cup baking soda

1/2 gallon water

Window Cleaner


2 teaspoons white vinegar

1 quart warm water

Wipe with crumpled black and white newsprint or cotton cloth.


Heat distilled white vinegar to 130 ℉. Spray surfaces. Leave one minute; wipe.



2 teaspoons borax

4 tablespoons vinegar

3 cups hot water

Spray or wipe on surfaces with damp cloth.

Mold and Mildew Remover

Apply full-strength white vinegar or lemon juice with sponge.

Lime Scale Remover

Apply lemon juice; leave on several minutes; wipe with wet cloth.

Air Freshener

Distribute containers of baking soda, vinegar with lemon juice or fresh coffee grounds around the house. Simmer fragrant spices (cinnamon, ginger, vanilla bean…) in water on the stove.
