Top 5 Eco-Friendly Laundry Tips

  1. Only wash full loads of laundry. For front-load washers, a whole load is when the drum is 75-percent full of clothes.
  2. Use cold water instead of hot or warm water. ENERGY STAR estimates that heating water uses 90 percent of the energy used when doing a load of laundry.
  3. Remove lint from the dryer lint filter after each load is complete. Not only will this reduce the risk of a fire, but it will also make the dryer perform at its maximum capability.
  4. Separate towels. Many benefits go along with washing towels separately, ranging from the towels getting cleaner, less lint transferred to other clothes, and a reduction in drying time.
  5. Pay attention to bleach, detergents, stain removers, fabric softeners and dryer sheets. Choose more eco-friendly alternatives that are formulated to work better in cold water and are more biodegradable.
