Originally called Columbia, the mining camp became a town in 1878 and changed its name to Telluride. In 1972, Telluride Ski Resort opened, and the community was forever changed. Telluride has a reputation for world-class skiing, cultural events, music and iconic festivals like Blues and Brews and the Telluride Jazz Festival.
